Moments of joy...
Tales of work, Glastonbury, a birthday, a gymnasium and a video. Here comes the sun...
Do we subconsciously always look forward to the heat of the summer months? When they do eventually arrive, I find myself slipping into some kind of dreamlike state because, for some reason, the warmth and light make me feel like I am living in a slightly surreal movie.
Over the past few weeks, Simon and I have finished mixing our new concept album STARLITE.ONE, sent the mixes off to Jon Astley for mastering, had the vinyl lacquers cut at Abbey Road by Miles Showell - who then sent the lacquers off to Optimal Media in Germany for pressing - finished creating the collage artwork for the album and worked on the design and album print artwork with our great friend Tiago Cruz.
A mountain of admin immediately followed: registering the works, writing the Media EPK and press releases then sending the album out for magazine review.
We released our lead single ‘Saving Me’ on 7th July and had to shoot, edit and produce a new music video plus we’ve been sorting out our online shop with all our new merchandise and…
You get the picture.
Glastonbury via iPlayer
We did manage to take a little time out, pumping our speakers up, watching the bands and sharing in the spirit of this wonderful festival from our home.
Our favourites included Christine and the Queens, Sparks, Texas, The Pretenders, Blondie, Manic Street Preachers, Hozier, Queens of the Stone Age and Elton who as we all know, really played his glitter socks off!!
There were many others too… but you get my drift!!
Dreaming of the gym
We also joined a gym.
Yes, you read that right. It’s not my style and certainly not Simon’s but we wanted to get in shape for our forthcoming UK tour in September/October and although we are pretty active, we wanted to focus in our health.
Our cool friend Danielle (Dani) Ferreira suggested we try out the Dream Gym in Samora Correia and I have to say, it’s just what we needed and then some. The staff are really friendly, attentive and supportive; we really feel like we are part of a community there.
Can you believe we look forward to going even though it’s tough!!
Serendipity also ensued as we have the Starlite & Campbell DREAM caps from our album ‘The Language of Curiosity’.
My birthday
I also had a birthday and we decided to go out for lunch in Lisbon with Dani and Tiago and wander around the city. It’s such a perfect place for those kind of days. Later that night, we ended up at our favourite Bar do Concelho, run by the legendary Joe Martini and walked home - a little worse for wear - at 0430!
Great day! Great night! Great!!
Right now, I am grateful for this time when I am able to share my life with my best friend and husband Simon, my wonderful friends and you.
Moments of joy
Without words, here are some moments of joy from the past few weeks…
And finally…
We are learning all the time, Simon is on the Ableton Live! mission and I am ripping into Adobe Premier Pro. I was using Apple iMovie for a long time but have now decided to get serious.
And here it is, my first venture, the new video of Saving Me - the lead single from our album STARLITE.ONE which is set for release on September 1st, 2023.
Thanks for reading and would love to hear your stories in the comments below.
Next week Simon is back in the hot seat.
Much love
Suzy
