I just discovered this fascinating article about musician Patrick Keel (aka The Pool) from Austin, Texas who is lauded as the forgotten pioneer behind the LCD Soundsystem sound.
There are definite influences there but James Murphy develops the soundscape into a whole other thing with his lyrics, other sounds and arrangements.
It also mentions The Pet Shop Boys who are well known amongst our music community for heavily 'borrowing' from other people's ideas...
